The Hedonic Treadmill – Where running is the same as standing – How to not get stagnated in life and beaten in our own game - How to be happy and how to move on

Image
That's a huge title.  Wikipedia defines the Hedonic treadmill as such. “ ...as a person makes more money, expectations and desires rise in tandem, which results in no permanent gain in happiness.”  Now that the topic looks promising, let me tell you a little story. Five years ago, I had really terrible INTERNET. It was slow, with limited bandwidth. I had to carefully choose the websites I visited to about exceeding my bandwidth. I really wanted a high speed INTERNET. Then I got into a better plan which gave me an increase in speed. But then Bandwidth was always a problem. Then I got into a plan which not only increased speed but also gave me unlimited bandwidth within a limited period within a day. But then I had to queue all the videos I wanted to see until this particular period when I got unlimited bandwidth and that was kind of irritating. The I got into an Unlimited plan. But there was a little compromise on speed. Now I was unlimited ban...

Why Bookmarks are not to be used in books - The staggering science between the dumbest of things we do

There are two ways of reading a book. One is to read it whenever you get time. Fiction or Non fictional Stories are mostly read like this. Number two , is when we select a topic to read and finish it off in that particular sitting. This is like splitting the book into readable sized articles and completing the articles in one sitting. Technical/Philosophical/Informative books can only be read in this way. You cannot read half the article one day and the rest on the next day. Come on! Of course you can, but there wouldn’t be proper information flow and you won’t be able to have a bird’s eye view of the information contained in the book. We've all used them. Bookmarks. They can be a piece of paper or a thread of cloth that comes with the book, or the silly paper bookmarks that are inside the books when you buy them. *Now, by bookmarks I mean, the bookmarks in a physical book; nothing digital. * Now imagine yourself in a new countr...

Essential ways to lessen the burden and lubricate your life *No Pun Intended* and getting things done

Hitting bottom isn't a weekend retreat. lt's not a goddamned seminar. Stop trying to control everything and just let go! - Tyler Durden - Fight Club Scientist have discovered that Will power is like a rationed product available to you in limited quantities. The more will power is exercised in one area of life, the weaker it is in another area of life. Of course will power is like a muscle which can be strengthened through practice, but that's not the point here. The point it that, like time, will power is available in limited quantities to exercise in daily decisions. If you are gonna continue to use will power in every activity, you are gonna burn out eventually. A life lived happily is a life which is well automated which does not allow you to make daily decisions.   “All of humanity's problems stem from man's inability to sit quietly in a room alone.” ― Blaise Pascal, Pensées The previous quote is so deep that it makes me tingle to just read i...

They never heal; the wounds of the heart - this is how you heal it

They never heal; the wounds of the heart. YUCK, THAT SOUNDED CORNY! AM GONNA PUKE! In a world which is imperfect, people end up wounding each other, inevitably. The entire BS about forgiving people for what they did to you, never work. Somewhere deep in the psyche, the scar remains making a permanent damage, that's why they call it a bloody scar in the first place. What is done is indeed done. An animal resides inside, still not forgetting, still not forgiving. So, how do you get over it? How do you get over the pain of the wounds which the people around you have given you? The answer is so very simple, that I couldn’t believe it when I read it in a book called, "The user manual of the Human Experience".  The author calls it PESD , which stands for Practical emotional self-defence. How do you put PESD in use? It's so simple. Ignore, or in fact move away from these people. Distance is the key. Move away. Move to another continent if you have...

Blistering barnacles, thundering typhoons and half assed behaviour

There is only one road block in life - HALF-ASSED BEHAVIOUR. That's it. Let me tell you two stories:  Story #1  A scorpion comes to the edge of a river and is unable to cross it. It finds a frog swimming in the pond, and asks the frog to drop him on the other side of the river. The frog, with clarity, tells the scorpion, "Hey, you'll sting me and I'll die. I won't take you on my back" The scorpion replies," Hey, if I sting you put there in the middle of the river, while you are crossing, both of us get to drown and die. I swear I won't do it." The frog appreciates the logic of the scorpion and allows it to climb on his shoulder. The frog swims to around half way across the river and *sting*, the scorpion stings the frog. The frog in tears, says to the scorpion, "Why in the world did you sting me? Look, now both of us are going to die" The scorpion replies, "Iam a scorpion. I sting". Und...

You don't know where l've been, Lou!

“It was right then that I started thinking about Thomas Jefferson on the Declaration of Independence and the part about our right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. And I remember thinking how did he know to put the pursuit part in there? That maybe happiness is something that we can only pursue and maybe we can actually never have it. No matter what. How did he know that? “ - The Pursuit of Happyness All hell let loose in my life the moment I got an android smart phone. The new features and possibility of my rooted (I lost my warranty within a month) android kept me glued to it and enthralled me that I started getting addicted to the momentary happiness whenever there is an update or enhancement. I would go through several technical statistics. (Call me an out of control freak at the moment if you want to; and watch me not care as you read further) Like a deer running on a mountain range on a foggy day enjoying the blazing moist wind; to fall down the cli...

Quotes Which Ground me to Reality and some Humour

Thought I’d Pull up a collection of Quotes which have always helped me ground me to something whenever I was having Problems taking decisions.   So here you go.   Some of them are sarcastic, bear with me:P “Education is an admirable thing, but it is well to remember from time to time that nothing that is worth knowing can be taught. -- Oscar Wilde “ First let me Start with Quotes from Fight Club (if you’ve read the previous Posts in my blog, you must have guessed this right): You are not your job. You're not how much money you have in the bank. You're not the car you drive. You're not the contents of your wallet. You're not your fucking khakis. You are the all-singing, all-dancing crap of the world. -- Fight Club I learned long ago, never to wrestle with a pig. You get dirty, and besides, the pig likes it. -- George Bernard Shaw No fear. No distractions. The ability to let that which does not matter truly slide. -- Fight Club ...

The Royal Way to use An Android Smart phone or tablet - How and How not to use your Android

I see all this potential in every Android Phone, inhibited and not made use of. I came to the point of Dejection combined with liberal anger when I wanted to write a post on how to use an Android Phone. Let’s start from scratch. Ground Zero. Use the Live Wallpaper feature if you really want to! Unless you are in no need of the Live Wallpaper Feature (I don’t most of the time), it wouldn’t hurt you to use Live Wallpapers in Your Android Phone/Tablet. High Battery consumption is the primary cause stated for not using the live Wallpaper feature, hey, but you know what, if you want to use a live wallpaper, go ahead and use a live wallpaper. Do what you want with your phone. It’s your phone, you own it, and it does not own you. Use the Home Button; For Christ’s Sake! One of the very useful and Mind Freeing Feature (philosophy) of Android is that it frees the user from exiting every application that is opened. You don’t have to close anything. The OS cleans up the resou...

Comfortably Numb

Have you ever burnt a book? It’s very painful. (To the book that is) Books don’t burn easily. When ignited, they catch fire but after some time, the flame puffs out. For effectively burning the book, it must be tortured, ripped apart page by page. I  don't  want to get into the Gory Details. People all around me are talented. They play good music, are excellent intellectuals, and efficient stock pickers. The last time, I listened to Fur Elise by Beethoven, I was mesmerised by the way seven different piece of Frequencies along with their half notes, could produce such a sweet sounding music with varying pitch combinations. I tried and tried and miserably failed to estimate the probability of Beethoven having come up with that piece of music, playing different notes at random. They call it destiny, you meeting your Girlfriend. The past always looks like destiny doesn’t it? A million pens made in a factory and the one pen that you buy was also meant ...

Internal Conflict

He looked at the prettiest face he had ever seen (He knows she’s not that much pretty but let’s give it up for poetic Licence), smiling all the way along with her girlfriends at the Bus Stop. He sees her everyday there. Her hair was long, with the scent he thought he could never resist. So much for feminine beauty. He had wanted to talk to her for a while now. He summoned up the courage today and finally decided that he is gonna do it. Confident and brave, he steps forward. His heart beats compulsively but his determination continues (he thinks so, wait until he messes up). Another step forward, he starts to have simulations. The major difference between an animal’s brain and the Human is that the Human can vividly visualise the events which might happen to them the next second, the next year, the next millennium, and the next 99999999999 years to follow. Animals can only sense them as the time and event comes., but limited in their ability to simulate things. A voice inside him...
